Thousands Enjoy Leadfoot Festival
The Leadfoot Festival held at Rod Millen’s ranch in Hahei is a unique event with a mix of classic cars, vintage motorcycles, performance vehicles and motorsport legends, all attempting to clock the fastest time up the one mile long driveway.
We were excited to attend the Leadfoot Festival over Waitangi weekend as the official Nitto Pit Paddock sponsors.
Despite some rain, it didn’t stop over 14,000 spectators attending the weekend event. Guests were given the ultimate experience with unlimited access to the pits, driver and cars.
The Nitto pits showcased a range of tyres, a brand new Ford Mustang thanks to John Andrew Ford and hosted a huge amount of ‘festival goers’ on our ‘Drive Club’ racing simulator.
This years event featured a star-studded line up from all over the world, including Kiwi driver Scott Dixon, Formula Drift driver Tanner Foust and British Rally Champ Alister McRae.
The wet track made for exciting and challenging climbs even for the most experienced drivers. As the weather cleared and the track dried up on Sunday the times started to drop and the top ten order scrambled.
It was no surprise that the winner of the weekend was a Millen, but no one quite expected to see Rod Millen beaten from the podium finish by his son, Rhys Millen with a time of 0:49:31.
The Leadfoot Festival is fast becoming an iconic Kiwi Summer event attracting fans from all over the globe, this year they enjoyed 40% growth on 2015 attendance.
