The Mad Life of Mike
If you follow Nitto partner and international drift star ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett on social media, you’ll know it’s hard to keep up with him.
A few highlights of Mike’s hectic year include placing third in the world series of Formula Drift, receiving ‘Driver of the Day’ at Goodwood Festival of Speed, and attending the Leadfoot Festival in New Zealand. During a short break from competing in the Formula Drift Series Mike travelled to South Africa, drifting at Wheels Of Fury and Supadrift before filming his latest Red Bull project ‘Conquer the Cape’ where he drifted the iconic Franschhoek Pass.
To add to his action packed calendar, Mike has collaborated with Hampton Downs Motorsport Park owner Tony Quinn, announcing the first Mazda Mad Mike’s Summer Bash to be held on February 18 at Hampton Downs.
The event is promising to be the biggest annual drifting event in New Zealand and offers something for everyone - from grassroots level to pro drifters, team drifting and time attack, with more track time for drivers and plenty of action for spectators. The unique event will also debut Mike’s‘RADBUL’ MX5 for the first time on a New Zealand track.
With a film crew closely following Mike this year, the Red Bull produced documentary ‘The Mad Life’ aired on TV3 CRC Motorsport on Sunday December 11, capturing the highs and lows of his motorsport journey. If you missed it you can head to Redbull.com to watch in full.
We look forward to joining Mike at the Leadfoot Festival on February 4 and 5, and Mazda Madmike’s Summer Bash on February 18.
